I’m in Brisbane and this library is a stone’s throw away from my sister’s house where I am currently staying in. I went for a walk and lo and behold this library appeared in front of me. How did that happen?
Date of Visit: Thursday 2 November 2023. It was a warm day and visiting this library gave the cool respite that I needed.
Features: Bracken Ridge Library is part of the Brisbane City Council libraries network and only opened in 2019 (a 6 million dollar upgrade). It features contemporary library services, resources and events to the Bracken Ridge and wider community. Services include mobile printing (where you can print from your mobile – all you need is the PrinterOn App installed in your phone), holds/reserves section, a quiet room, water fountain, a deck with tables and chairs and public PCs.
I like the Tutti-Fruity interior design which I find quite refreshing. Although, I fear this might feel dated in 20 years time or even 5 years I suspect. But for now it’s quite pretty and tropical like. Makes me feel like drinking some fruit punch.
I also like the fact that you could borrow some sports equipment (football, soccer ball, basket ball and others) so that you could play in the playground which is situated at the back of the library. Brilliant!
Overall Impression: Love the spaciousness of this library. It has views of the surrounding parks which feels peacful if you’re studying, reading or contemplating. The surrounding windows give plenty of natural light in the library space. The building feels new. If you’re not that interested in books (and why wouldn’t you, may I ask?) you can just visit this library for its refreshing lovely space to spend time in.
