First I chuckled, then I had the worst nightmare (literally) and then I finished off reading this book with another hilarious bout of laughter! So apart from the bad dreams (more about that later) I totally enjoyed Cat Out Of Hell by Lynne Truss.
So…a quick summary….the story starts off with a retired librarian, Alec who suddenly finds himself in a possession of some digital files. These files (audio, emails and photographs) contain information about a local actor name Wiggy and a talking cat (!) name Roger who sounds like Vincent Price. Sounds far-fetched I know but I was willing to go along with the ride. And to be honest, Alec’s narration and Wiggy and Roger’s dialogue were quite funny. From there, we find Alec discovering Roger’s an immortal cat who’s a member of a satanic cult and was somehow involved in his wife’s sudden death. Truly intriguing….I’ll let you read the rest.
The nightmare came just after reading the book one night. It must have been a reference to satan and satanic cults fueled by the exhaustion of the day that got my sub-conscious mind going. It was intense! In this vivid dream, I was being chased by some evil being (Mephistopheles) and wanted to wake up so badly. I kept screaming ‘wake me up’ and eventually woke up screaming those words. Wow! After that, I continued reading the book at daytime.
