Book Review – Moomin and the Ice Festival

Lately, I have been fascinated with the Moomin books by Tove Jansson. I think I’ve borrowed every single book that my library holds (including a DVD!). The Moomin book collection mainly consists of children’s picture books but I have a few waiting to be read that are in the novel format.

So here’s the first Moomin book that I have read. (By the way, I discovered the Moomin books via a podcast I was listening to during a short road trip to Launceston).

In this story, the Moomin family (Moominpappa, Moominmamma, Moomintroll and LittleMy) were all set for their long winter sleep. But Snorkmaiden and LittleMy went off to the Ice Festival instead. Moomintroll and Moominpappa set off to rescue them. As they did, they also joined in the Ice Festival. They had a great time ice skating and seeing the northern lights at midnight. Then they went home for their winter sleep.

I like this story. It’s nice to have a little fun before you go on your winter sleep. I also like the imagery. Kids would love listening to and reading this book.
