Book Review – Where the Crawdads Sing

Wow! I totally enjoyed this book by Delia Owens. I started reading this on the last leg of our recent road trip. The subject matter of the book felt appropriate to our travel. We were learning about nature and were on the move constantly, being exposed to new surroundings and environments. Similarly, the book was about the natural world but more so about the marsh/swamp/wetlands. It was interesting to see the similarities/differences between the American wetlands to the Australian ones – as we have just visited the Coorong wetlands.

But really this is a coming-of-age story of the ‘marsh girl’ Kya Clark set in the 50’s/60’s in the quiet town of Barkley Cove on the North Carolina coast. I won’t give the story away too much but there’s also romance (the nice type), finding (and losing) love and a murder mystery. Yes, murder! What else could you ask for? I highly recommend this book!
