I came across this book when I was visiting Mount Gambier Public Library. Even though I could have borrowed it while we were in South Australia, I decided to reserve the item from my local library. Popular book that it is, it took a while before I could borrow it.
Alright, this is another one of those minimalist books written of course by The Minimalists -they are also known as Joshua Fields Millburn & Ryan Nicodemus. So this book is not just about practical ways in which people can de-clutter or minimise the material things they have but goes in deeper. Millburn uses his experience and history to illustrate these. Readers will find out about his life when he was growing up poor and raised by his single mother or when his first marriage collapsed. He ties all these in nicely with how to live a meaningful life. The book is broken into 7 relationship chapters:
- Stuff
- Truth
- Self
- Values
- Money
- Creativity
- People
At the end of each chapter, the other half of The Minimalist, Nicodemus poses questions and outlines dos and don’ts – specific actions that you can incorporate into your daily life. I know readers are supposed to reflect on each chapter but I kinda skipped these bits (ie. only read them but not actually actioned them – I know naughty right?)
Anyway, I highly recommend this book. You might pick up a good thing or two.
